Tasting Date: 1/6/2018
Tasting Time: 2230
Tasting: Neat, with water
Nose:
Big honey, PX seems to be taken the center stage rather than Oloroso. Barley, malty, very malty actually. Close to Milo. Not your typical sherry bomb GlenDronach, this is rather fresh and subtle. Wet raisins, sweet fruits. Grassy. / 21.0
Palate:
Big honey again, pretty fiery. Ginger, sweet candy, chocolate. / 20.0
Finish:
Pretty dried and warm. Dry from the PX I guess, warm from the ginger. Quite spirity. Pretty long though. / 16.5
Balance:
A bit too balance for a cask strength whisky. Kind of lack the complexity of a "GlenDronach". / 20.0
Price:
With the price slightly higher than the Glenfarclas 105. I would rather pick up the 105 instead of this GlenDronach. / 2.5
Final Verdict:
Pretty disappointing from GlenDronach. Certainly not the best from them, but they can surely do better than this. If you are looking for the signature GlenDronach's nose and palate, this is not the whisky for you. If you are looking for a sherry bomb cask strength whisky, Look elsewhere. If you're a die hard GlenDronach fan, try them before you buy. / 80.0
