Tasting Date: 22/12/2018
Tasting Time: 2200
Tasting: Neat
Nose:
Very prominent sherry notes, dried fruits, sweet dates, nice oak notes. Plum, prunes, overiped fruits. Close to the nose of a quality rum. There is a hint of saltiness, not very obvious, laying behind the sweet curtain. Rubber, old book store. Bit of sulphur. / 21.75
Palate:
Rather weak and watery arrival, faint saltiness. Surprisingly there is a hint of smoke. Nutty, Pretty dry. / 20.0
Finish:
Pretty pleasant and medium finish. The smoke is a surprise here as well. / 17.2
Balance:
Start with a very promising nose, but the palate is disappointing, but the finish is surprisingly pleasant. Quite an interesting whisky. / 21.0
Price:
At around 100 Euro for a NAS blended malt, not the best value you can get with this bottle. / 3.0
Final Verdict:
A blended malt with a wonderful whisky, a disappointing palate and a surprise finish. A very interesting whisky indeed, with a very impressive nose, however was let down by the palate. I suspect the palate might be due to oxidation as I've kept this sample for quite some time already. Would like to try it fresh from the bottle next time. / 83.0
