Tasting Date: 9/4/2018
Tasting Time: 2200
Tasting: Neat
Nose:
Dirty peat, medicinal peat, earthy peat, hints of almond, dampened card box. Saw dust, iodine. Hints of leather, and some dark fruits. Lovely. Classic Lagavulin! / 23.0
Palate:
Smoky, kind of nutty, lovely syrupy sweetness but not to sweet, licorice. Pretty salty. Slight burnt and warming, which is a good thing. Pretty oily and fresh. / 22.5
Finish:
Smoky. Leaves a very oily and lemony after taste. No bitterness, which is a good thing to me. A bit grassy. / 17.5
Balance:
Elegantly smoked. Good things from the nose continues to the palate, and faded in the finish. All in a very harmonious way. / 22.0
Price:
You can hardly find anything better than this, at this price, with this age. / 5.0
Final Verdict:
A classic Islay whisky. If you are eager to know what Islay is all about, Lagavulin 16 is a great start for you! Every malt head should have at least one bottle of this on the shelf. / 90.0
